Hands-on museum

The Fairbanks Children's Museum holds a roving hands-on exhibit just about once a month.  We were out of town for the one last month.  We were lucky to have one today when it's forty below outside.  Jack was feeling a lot better today after sleeping most of yesterday evening so we decided to get out.  The $5 admission was well worth it and I'm glad we got there right when it opened.  And hour and a half later when I had to drag my little boy out of there the crowd had gone from a few to over a hundred toddlers.  The only thing that could have made this event better was a martini bar.

You would have thought this was the
only toy in the place when we first got there.
Jack didn't want to let it go.

Magnet table. Surpirsingly none went in his mouth.

Water beads. These things reminded me of
salmon eggs but were so cool.

Who knew food-colored rice could be so much fun

Sick day

Jack had his 16 month check-up yesterday and went well. The doctor said he is healthy and smart. I knew that already. He is have to get four shots which he was not happy about but being the uber brave boy he is, he got his shots. This morning however he woke up (2:30 am) with a fever and just wasn't feeling well. So we stayed home today. I think Jack just didn't want to go outside since its getting cold out and just going to get worse!

shovel time

Jack forgot about his coveted snow shovel.  I brought it out after breakfast this morning and get screamed with excitement, trying to shovel things inside.  It's a bit chilly, about -10 so we went out for a little bit to play and walk around.  We got up early this morning, about 6 am, and apparently that was early enough for Jack.  As we came in from outside he made his sleepiness very apparent and is currently taking a nap in the big bed.

Days off are for...

Chores and home-mending it seems like!  We managed to get out of the house pretty early do get our shopping out of the way.  We got home and Jack took a longer-than-usual nap. I decided to install a Christmas gift from mom and dad,  an outlet with two USB plug in ports.  The second problem I fixed was a sometimes running toilet in my bathroom.  Armed with a mop bucket and towels I successfully changed the insides of my toilet tank and it works like a charm.  I am thankful to my dad who always let me "help" him when I was young. Surely I was more in the way than helping, but dad, I was paying attention! This bright blue house I bought almost a year ago (I can't believe it) is the first I've owned solely, and after renting a few times I am being reminded of the joys of home ownership: you can't call the landlord to come fix something, you've got to call a contractor or Google that sh*t and fix it your darn self.  While at the hardware store, Jack got a couple of things as well, a snow shovel that's just his size, and a Swiffer.  He loves to sweep, shovel, wipe tables down, dust, anything to "help" his momma.  He didn't see the Swiffer go into the cart just his shovel so when he woke up from his nap I had it ready to go for him.  He squeeled in delight and went to work!  After dinner,  I went to put a sweatshirt on and Jack wanted to wear it.  Since he gets whatever he wants, I let him.  He almost looked like a Jawa from Star Wars!

Coolest thing in town.  Even has a green indicator
light to let you know your device is charging!

Toilet bowl before... Ick!  Lots of build up from
toilet "drop in" cleaners.  I hate those things!

After... still an "ick" factor but I managed to
flush most of the build up out.

Tug was lucky he didn't get picked
up by the Swiffer patrol

*Summer Days!*

These abnormal high temperatures bring out the "yard work" or "snow" work.  Jack and I spent a couple hours outside as soon as it got light out.  We shoveled off the entire deck,  uncovered patio furniture from 18 inches of snow,  and woke up the barbeque.  We came inside to watch the last half of the Seahawk play-off game (valiant effort, fellas!) eat lunch and Jack took a nap.  I really wanted to take a nap as well, but with freezing rain and five inches of snow in the forecast in the next week I figured I had better get to shoveling.  It took me about and hour but I got the driveway all cleaned up.  Tonight my friend Heather is coming over to grill a few steaks on the 'barbie.  This warm weather has been a very nice break!

Almost one year ago (Jan 16th '12) it was thirty-eight degees
below zero. Almost a one hundred degree difference!

I know this "clear" deck won't last long,  but it's nice
to know that it is still there.  Somewhere.

Tug somehow managed to take a picture of himself.
I have no idea how it happened.

warm weekend!

We have had some unusually warm weather the past few days.  I love it,  Jack, Tug and I have definitely been enjoying it by playing outside, going for walks and I like shoveling snow when my eyes don't freeze shut.  The warmth does come with a price:  two inches of snow (no biggie) but there is now a chance for freezing rain which will make things a mess.  So I am hoping for just snow!  This was also our first week back to school and work from taking a break during the holidays.  It wasn't easy.  We stuck to our schedule today,  it was so hard to get back into it that it's easier to tough it out and wake up, eat lunch, take naps and go to bed all at the same times as during the week.
